Tips on Finding Coupons for Your Local Jewish Groc...

I have noticed after living in Los Angeles for the past 18 years that there are a ton of tight-knit Jewish communities strung throughout the region. No matter where I travel in the LA basin, I can always find a section of the city that reminds me of my own Jewish community. One thing I have also found within these Jewish communities is that the community members to love to save money and cut coupons.

Jewish communities often have their own local grocery stores that carry specific “Kosher” foods and products. Jewish people rely on these types of groceries stores for the supplies necessary to make traditional Jewish dishes and recipes. I know my mom would just go crazy if her local Jewish grocery store went out of business.

With that being said, my mom has also passed down quite a few tips and tricks when it comes to saving money in local Jewish groceries stores. The first thing you should know, is that you will rarely find coupons for these kinds of stores in the newspaper. These small stores don’t find that advertising in the regular newspaper to be profitable for their businesses because the majority of people reading these newspapers aren’t Jewish.

Although you won’t find many coupons in the mainstream newspapers, don’t forget about local Jewish publications. Newsletters and mini-newspapers published by Jewish communities are almost guaranteed to include advertisements and coupons. The coupons found in these types of publications are typically accepted at a specific store – as opposed to being accepted at “chain” grocery stores.

The next time you are shopping in your local Jewish grocery store, take a few minutes to ask the owner about the best way to take advantage of sales. Each and every grocery store is different and they may offer large discounts during a particular time of the month or year. You never know until you ask…

These are just a few of the tips that my very Jewish mother has tried to drill into my head for years. I started using them as I’ve grown older and I am actually seeing the amount of money I spend on Jewish groceries each month decrease significantly.
